Actionable Intelligence. Building an analysis ecosystem for a smarter approach to intelligence Keith Carter's Actionable Intelligence: A Guide to Delivering Business Results with Big Data Fast! is the comprehensive guide to achieving the dream that business intelligence practitioners have been chasing since the concept itself came into being. Written by an IT visionary with extensive global supply chain experience and insight, this book describes what happens when team members have accurate, reliable, usable, and timely information at their fingertips. With a focus on leveraging big data, the book provides expert guidance on developing an analytical ecosystem to effectively manage, use the internal and external information to deliver business results. This book is written by an author who's been in the trenches for people who are in the trenches. It's for practitioners in the real world, who know delivering results is easier said than done – fraught with failure, and difficult politics. A landscape where reason and passion are needed to make a real difference. This book lays out the appropriate way to establish a culture of fact-based decision making, innovation, forward looking measurements, and appropriate high-speed governance. Readers will enable their organization to: Answer strategic questions faster Reduce data acquisition time and increase analysis time to improve outcomes Shift the focus to positive results rather than past failures Expand opportunities by more effectively and thoughtfully leveraging information Big data makes big promises, but it cannot deliver without the right recipe of people, processes and technology in place. It's about choosing the right people, giving them the right tools, and taking a thoughtful—rather than formulaic--approach. Actionable Intelligence provides expert guidance toward envisioning, budgeting, implementing, and delivering real benefits.

Actionable Intelligence In Healthcare. This book shows healthcare professionals how to turn data points into meaningful knowledge upon which they can take effective action. Actionable intelligence can take many forms, from informing health policymakers on e?ective strategies for the population to providing direct and predictive insights on patients to healthcare providers so they can achieve positive outcomes. It can assist those performing clinical research where relevant statistical methods are applied to both identify the e?cacy of treatments and improve clinical trial design. It also benefits healthcare data standards groups through which pertinent data governance policies are implemented to ensure quality data are obtained, measured, and evaluated for the bene?t of all involved. Although the obvious constant thread among all of these important healthcare use cases of actionable intelligence is the data at hand, such data in and of itself merely represents one element of the full structure of healthcare data analytics. This book examines the structure for turning data into actionable knowledge and discusses: The importance of establishing research questions Data collection policies and data governance Principle-centered data analytics to transform data into information Understanding the "why" of classified causes and effects Narratives and visualizations to inform all interested parties Actionable Intelligence in Healthcare is an important examination of how proper healthcare-related questions should be formulated, how relevant data must be transformed to associated information, and how the processing of information relates to knowledge. It indicates to clinicians and researchers why this relative knowledge is meaningful and how best to apply such newfound understanding for the betterment of all.

Actionable Intelligence For The Warfighter. Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories (LM ATL) has researched and developed Situation Understanding technologies to provide tailored, Actionable Intelligence to the individual warfighter. Situation Understanding (SU) is a core requirement of the Future Combat Systems and programs such as the Distributed Common Ground Station Army. LM ATL has developed an SU Engine to automatically fuse multiple intelligence reports with track data into a Common Relevant Operating Picture (CROP) of the battlespace. The SU Engine augments the CROP with hypotheses as to the relationships that may exist between entities, environment, and events within the battlespace. These relationships are then used as the basis for inferring the most likely and most dangerous courses of actions that the enemy may be pursuing. The Future Force is actively trading weight for intelligence, while at the same time supporting a broader range of missions, with fewer operators and greater volumes of information. The SU Engine maintains the context of the various warfighters that the system is supporting. A warfighter's context includes location of the warfighter, the warfighter's mission, and the state of the battlespace surrounding the warfighter. The SU Engine, based on any explicit information requests provided by the warfighter combined with needs inferred by the SU Engine, dynamically composes multi-level fusion services to convert raw sensor and report data into higher level relationships and ultimately into predictions of enemy courses of action. The SU Engine can access sensor and report data from a range of sources including service-enabled net-centric systems. Services within the SU Engine are described using industry open standards augmented with semantic definitions to support just-in-time service composition.

Key Issues Relevant To Actionable Intelligence. Encompasses a series of six stand-alone issue papers examining the Joint Intelligence Operations Center concept and five of the eight Actionable Intelligence initiatives that comprise Army Intelligence transformation. The focus of that transformation is providing optimized intelligence support to the one who needs the information most -- the Soldier. The success of Actionable Intelligence will be measured by Soldiers' ability to operate more efficiently, with greater situational awareness and therefore greater confidence, succeeding in an environment very different from that of the recent past.

Transforming Data And Metadata Into Actionable Intelligence And Information Within The Maritime Domain. At present, the Navy is unable to provide a robust, routable network that provides real-time actionable intelligence between boarding operations and intelligence analysts. Actionable intelligence is the means of obtaining concrete knowledge that permits an individual to take action based on known information. The lack of a robust routable network creates a lag in operational responsiveness to potential threats identified within the Maritime Environment. In response to current shortfalls, improved Extended Maritime Interdiction Operations (EMIO) seeks to support the Secretary of the Navy's vision to streamline and improve operations and exploitation of boarding data. However, there has been no clear indication as to how the implementation of these technologies will affect command and control or current operations. This thesis examines the impact of improved EMIO technology designed to bridge together data with intelligence collected during EMIO and improve maritime domain decision making in terms of speed and quality and thus improve end user's situational awareness. We follow the construct of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) to frame our analysis and to provide focus in our data collection. We also examine the changes to the present EMIO process by developing and implementing an organizational simulation using POWER 2.0. Our results indicate that when improved Spiral-1 EMIO technologies, which significantly decrease the amount of time it takes to fuse collected boarding data into intelligence systems, are combined with a redesign of the EMIO organization, a qualitative improvement toward accomplishing the overall process can be achieved. The current process requires 35 hours. Yet, with the revised technological and proposed organizational changes, the same process can be achieved in 5 hours, thus achieving the Navy Secretary's vision to streamline and improve maritime operations.
