Focused Leadership. Building-level and central office administrators must be both instructional and learning leaders. Instructional leadership means focusing on teacher behaviors that support student learning and helping teachers make good decisions about their own behaviors in the classroom. Learning leadership focuses on the learning itself—how students absorb, process, and retain information. This guide will assist administrators in their quest to be more effective at what they do; this is meant not as a prescriptive document, but rather a baseline from which to grow. This guide provides information about the intricacies of the teaching and learning process and how these elements are linked. Readers are encouraged to use the guide as a foundation, as a starting point to expand their own instructional and learning leadership. They should modify, add to, and personalize the guide as they challenge themselves to grow. The guide encompasses many components, all of which are important. It should help administrators to know what to look for during an observation, and, perhaps even more important, topics of conversations to have with teachers. Transformational leadership begins with understanding teaching and learning as well as having the ability to generate quality conversations.

This volume zeros in on a promising set of strategies and practices for all leaders to motivate, support, and sustain learning in contemporary schools. Learning-Focused Leadership in Action explores what it means for educational leadership to be "learning-focused," what this looks like in practice at both the school and district level, and how such leadership changes can be set in motion. Drawing on extensive case study research in schools and districts that are making progress on learning improvement, this volume explores how leaders at all levels of the educational system can productively seek to improve the quality of learning opportunities and student performance, no matter how challenging the circumstances.

Effects Of Solution Focused Training On Leadership Behaviour And Productivity Solution Focused Management Series. Recently the transfer of the "solution-focused approach" developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg into the field of management can be seen in many applications in HR-Management, leadership, team-management, marketing and sales and so on. But there are only few studies which investigate the effect of solution-focused work in organizations and up to now there has been no research concerning the effects on productivity in organizations. This evaluation study examines the effects of a solution-focused training and coaching programme on leadership behaviour and productivity which was carried out at a Norwegian production plant in the fast-moving consumer goods industry. The goal of the present study was in the first step to establish a theoretic base in order to accompany a solution-focused leadership training and coaching programme, which was meant to deliver first results in some areas within a short time. Continuative the objective was to evaluate how far this type of leadership training is able to actually bring about changes in behaviour and productivity with the purpose of meeting the growing challenges presented by the management development training as well as the demands on the effectiveness of training measures.

The Strengths Focused Guide To Leadership. This effective guide shows you how to identify and develop the strengths of both yourself and your people, and ensure that talent is spotted and nurtured at every step. Strengths-Focused Leadership is the only step-by-step practical guide on the market to identifying and enhancing people’s innate strengths - which leads to higher levels of energy, job satisfaction and engagement. Rather than relying on online assessment tools, this book shows you how to discover your strengths yourself and how to use this process to assist others. The authors have used their executive coaching backgrounds to build a practical model for using and applying the strengths focus. The MORE model focuses on 4 key elements: Myself – how do I identify and develop my own strengths and overcome my weaknesses? Others – how do I help my people do the same? Regular conversations – how do I ensure that ‘strengths thinking’ becomes part of business as usual? Employee processes – how do I apply a strengths focus to recruitment, induction and performance? Broken into 3 chapters on each element, the Model teaches you how to use the strengths focus to tackle key business challenges – collaboration, change and strategy.
